I attended an exhibit on the work of Jim Henson at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City. In the exhibit it talked about Henson’s work on Sesame Street, The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock. I was caught by one of the descriptions that said the main purpose of the show Fraggle Rock was to promote peace and international collaboration. I absolutely loved that idea and went on to read the biography of Jim Henson by Brian Jay Jones. I was amazed to learn that Henson would fly between New York (Sesame Street), London (The Muppet Show) and Toronto (Fraggle Rock) to work on all three shows AT THE SAME TIME. I can’t imagine doing that much flying.
But now we don’t need to fly anywhere. We can collaborate on platforms like Zoom and Boxcast and Facebook. The Covid-19 quarantine was a challenging situation for all. But my goal as an artist and as a presenter is to be an eternal optimist. There’s always a silver lining. And it’s always enjoyable to connect with new friends around the world and collaborate together.
