10 Nov Instrument Petting Zoo at Bergen Performing Arts Center
We shared another fabulous Instrument Petting Zoo at the Bergen Performing Arts Center today! Families loved it. We want to celebrate connection and collaboration. We want to reward families for getting out of the house and coming to a shared cultural experience. Kids tried out all kind of instruments – from egg shakers to steel drums to xylophones and many more. We want to promote unstructured play (in a semi-structured way obviously so everything is safe and accessible) so kids can make new connections with other children who are attending the performances at the theater. Rather than saying “Don’t do XYZ” we want to promote a sense of autonomy and agency to create with other children. The amazing thing that everyone has been saying is that “The kids are so well behaved” and the parents will say things like “We don’t want to leave! We want to stay in here!” It’s been so much fun and we look forward to the new and exciting connections that children and parents/caregivers will make at our future instrument petting zoos.
